Florida’s Voluntary Prekindergarten Education Program (VPK) is a free educational program that supports incoming kindergarten children. Children may participate in VPK the summer right before the school year in which the child is eligible for kindergarten.

Our summer program will include 200 mandated instructional hours and we will only welcome 12 students in each of the 2 classrooms.

VPK is a voluntary program and if you are planning to take a family vacation, participate in other summer activities, maybe this option is not the right one for your family, as we expect for the child not to miss school. Attending our VPK program is a commitment, and we are required by the Office of Early Learning to have families sign an attendance contract.

If attending VPK free summer program parents are responsible for:

  • Obtaining registration voucher through the ELC (Online)
  • Complying with date of birth verification requirements
  • Complying with residential address verification requirements
  • Providing the child’s transportation, lunch, and daily snacks
  • Complying with the provider’s attendance contract, and other program policies
  • Complying with the program’s discipline and expulsion contract

For more information about the VPK programs and the application process, please contact the Early Learning Coalition of Sarasota (ELC) by clicking HERE or by calling 941.556.1600. The application process is online.
